Stick Taps and Snark - October 13, 2026

Stick Taps and Snark - October 13, 2026 by Nicole Haase

↑ Providence defender Josie Lang – The junior tallied her first career goal against Boston College in the 76th game of her collegiate career.

↓ Wisconsin – The Badgers dropped out of the top spot in the rankings after being swept by Ohio State. It's the first time they weren't #1 since the second week of the 2024-2025 season.

↑ Northeastern's Stryker Zablocki – She was the difference-maker on Friday, scoring two short-handed goals in 1:28 on separate penalties in a game against Providence that NU won 2-0. It was the first time since 2013 that a Husky had scored two short-handers in one game.

↓ International camp during the season – I've been talking about this in one way or another for a couple of weeks, so please forgive one last retread - but we now know how big an impact those players have on their teams and how much this camp messed with the college game.

↑ Ohio State – Maybe this is obvious given the downvote on Wisconsin, but shout out to the Buckeyes for looking so good in their wins over their rivals. They looked so poised and composed for a game in early October. It's early so I'm sure there is plenty they still want to clean up, but they had contributions up and down their line sheet. No one person had to do too much and from top to bottom they pressured and overwhelmed Wisconsin. They took the puck off their stick, never let them have an easy zone entry and hemmed them in.

↓ Minnesota Duluth – The Bulldogs split their weekend series with St. Thomas, but I also thought they got a little exposed. Strong goaltending is a key to UMD's long term success, but it felt like missing Caitlin Kraemer this week really showed how key she is for them and how much they need a few players around her to step up. Their attack is slower and less targeted without her on the ice.

↑ Syracuse – The Orange got a big win over Penn State on Friday and they did it with a ton of heart and grit, going ahead twice before giving up goals to tie the game. But they didn't stop believing and responded each time.
