NCAA Hockey: Guide to NEWHA

NCAA Hockey: Guide to NEWHA by Nicole Haase

In 2017, Sacred Heart, which had been an independent program, joined Holy Cross, St. Michael's, St. Anselm, and Franklin Pierce, who had been removed from their DIII conferences and Post, who was just beginning a women's hockey program, to form a scheduling alliance called the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA). In 2018, Holy Cross left to join Hockey East and NEWHA announced plans to adhere to Division I recruiting rules and offer scholarships, as well as add Long Island University when the team started their program in 2019. NEWHA was approved as a Division I NCAA conference in September 2019. Stonehill joined in 2022 and Assumption joined in 2023
