• After two weeks where defenses slowed down the Badgers and the top-ranked team looked much more fallible, Wisconsin put on a show in Madison this weekend, defeating #3 Minnesota 8-2 and 6-1. Saturday's game was as complete a game as anyone has played this season, with the Badgers showcasing all the skills and personnel that have had them at the top of the polls all season. They clinched their 10th WCHA regular season title on Saturday.
  • The Badgers lost two players to injury in the first game of the weekend and were able to fill that gap in the lineup with Laila Edwards, a forward and the country's leading goal-scorer who made the switch to defense with the US National Team this year. What a backup plan to have.
  • The difference between #1 Wisconsin's NPI (68.847) and #2 Ohio State's NPI (61.875, for a 6.972 difference) is larger than the difference between #2 Ohio State's NPI and #15 Princeton's NPI (54.960). That's bonkers.
  • I talked about Cardiac Colgate last week, but Ohio State probably has a claim on at least part of that title as they pulled off another miracle. They were down 4-2 with under six minutes to play but forced overtime with a late goal after pulling their goalie and then won in overtime. They have four other late game heroic, overtime wins, plus their epic five-goal comeback against Minnesota a few weeks ago.
  • Penn State earned their third-straight regular season title, though this one is the first-ever in the newly renamed AHA. Mercyhurst congratulated them by giving them their only conference loss on Saturday.
  • Cornell extended their lead atop the ECAC to 3.5 points as they took six points on the weekend while Colgate dropped a game in OT to RPI.
  • UConn is just one point back of Boston University in Hockey East as the Huskies defeated the Terriers on Friday.
  • LIU is one point up on Sacred Heart in NEWHA thanks to a pair of wins against Franklin Pierce while the Pioneers split a series with St. Michael's (check back tomorrow for more on the Purple Knights).
  • I'm not entirely convinced anyone actually wants to win Hockey East. I know it's not true, but the topsy-turvyness of that league where one team hasn't been able to grab the opportunity that's up in the air is frustrating. I suppose it makes for good drama and every game has become must-watch because outcomes are so unpredictable. But it drives me a little nuts to watch a team put together a complete and solid game one day and then go out and look like they've barely played together before the next. It's far down the list, but this is one of the reasons I couldn't be a coach.
  • Princeton's Sarah Paul is probably the most underrated player of the season. The Tigers have been on the fringes of the poll most of the season, but haven't been a true contender for the ECAC title or an at-large bid, but Paul is having a heck of a season, with 26 goals and eight assists, far surpassing the 16 goals and seven assists she had last season. The Tigers needed someone to step up as Sarah Fillier graduated and Paul answered the call.
  • St. Lawrence continues to be impressive, holding steady in the third spot in the ECAC and #7 in the Pairwise. They graduated some key players, but have continued to improve all year and it feels like they've really built on what they learned in the NCAA Tournament last year, their first appearance in several years.
  • Goals of the week:

SLU's Kristina Bahl's between the legs pass to Abby Hustler's one-timer

Kahlen Lamarche, two-sport athlete for Quinnipiac

Get tripped, score a banger while falling down. Great goal by Stonehill's Brianna Walkom

One touch and Margot Norehead is off for Brown

BC's Kate Ham playing a very complicated game of horse with this off the back boards, over the net goal

Casey O'Brien's short-handed goal for Wisconsin

Alex Ferguson's drop pass and Abby Poitras' one-timer for Merrimack

Where has this passing been all year, Boston College?
