↑ Minnesota State's Taylor Otremba – After having the game on her stick and hitting the post in overtime on Friday, she had a massive game on Saturday with two goals and an assist to lead her team to an upset of #2 Ohio State. Love that for her.
↓ Vermont – The Catamounts are struggling to put the puck in the net. They've scored just three goals over the last six games, going 243:47 between goals on November 15 and November 24. Overall they are averaging just 1.25 goals per game, good for third-worst in the nation.
↑ Milestones – On Saturday, Kalty Kaltounková became the first Raider in Colgate program history to score 100 career goals. She is also the only active NCAA Division I skater to reach that plateau. Wisconsin's KK Harvey became the fifth Badgers blueliner to reach 100 career points and was the quickest to reach that number. Teammate Casey O'Brien set a new program record for career assists with a helped on the Badgers' third goal on Saturday to reach 139. Minnesota's Peyton Hemp and Minnesota Duluth's Olivia Wallin each tallied their 100th career point last weekend.
↓ Whatever this is – Listen, I went on my rant about color balance and exposure and the quality 0f streams and I didn't plan to revisit it, but then this is what the St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota game looked like on Saturday and I could not let it go unnoted.
↑ Underdogs – I think I'm the biggest fan of Minnesota State's upset win simply because they came so close on Friday and followed that up by completing the job. They knew Ohio State would come harder and be a little upset by needing overtime to win the night before and the Mavericks matched that energy and then some. But I loved how Princeton did not quit and had a response every time Colgate tied the game. And St. Cloud rebounded from a 5-2 loss on Friday to really stifle Minnesota.
↓ Women's Euro Tour games not streamed – I was told the games will be streamed in Finland and folks elsewhere will need a VPN in order to try and watch them.
↑ PWHL is back this week! – The season starts Saturday and we simply cannot wait. It has felt like a lot of hurry up and wait over the past few weeks with different announcements and drops and while it's been a lot of fun news, I'm so impatient to just drop the puck already!
↓↑ Overtime – Whether this is good or bad probably depends on how your team has fared, but I couldn't get over the thought that there has been A LOT of overtime so far this season so I did a little digging. There have been 10 more OT games this season than there were at this time last year. Last season had more non-conference, early season extra frames than this year. Drilling in a little closer, in November 2023, there were 16 OT games played. In November 2024 there have been 28, which averages out to three more OT games a week this month versus the same time last year. Maybe it's nothing. I'm not sure it's worth logging the numbers over the first 10 weeks going back several seasons, but it is nice to know it wasn't just perception that things have been a lot closer and more chaotic this season.
