• UConn did the improbable this weekend, winning their second-straight Hockey East regular season title in the process. After some wobbles the past few weeks, they went into the final regular season weekend five points behind Boston University. The two teams were set to play a home and home two-game series. BU owned the tiebreaker, so they simply needed a single point to secure the title. Instead, the Huskies swept the weekend and stole the crown right off their heads. It was a heck of a showing from UConn.
  • We've had some weird goals this season, but the only goal in the Saturday game between Minnesota and Minnesota Duluth takes the cake for oddest one I've ever seen. We never did get to see the overhead shot, but this goal was reviewed and called good and it was the difference maker.

Thanks to Gopher radio guy Dan Hamann, who sent along this screencap, which is the only time I've actually been able to see the puck in any angle of this craziness.

  • Union's 2-0 win over Brown was their first-ever playoff victory. The Garnet Chargers took a bunch of big steps this year and it was cool to see that payoff.
  • Robert Morris finished last in the AHA and had just two conference wins all season. And they took third place Syracuse to 2OT in the first round of the conference tournament.
  • There were two different ties in the final NEWHA standings and one in the ECAC. I feel like I harped all year on every point mattering, but it also blows my mind with all the different scoring schemes and games that in the end it comes down to a tiebreaker two or three or four down the list.
  • There are some absolutely top-tier, ranked matchups coming this week in the first or second round of conference tournaments. It's a shame some seasons are going to end this weekend.
  • It was awesome to see Saturday's UConn/BU game with the conference title on the line was put on NESN. And the teams showed out.
  • Wisconsin's Casey O'Brien is the overall regular season scoring champ with 72 points on 23 goals and 49 assists. Teammate Laila Edwards leads the country with 30 goals.
  • Conference regular season scoring champs are: AHA - Tessa Janecke, Penn State (48 pts), ECAC - Issy Wunder, Princeton (47 pts) Hockey East - Reichen Kirchmair, Princeton (37 pts), NEWHA - Julia Wysocki, Post (26 pts), WCHA - Casey O'Brien, Wisconsin (72 pts)
  • Goals you need to see:

All the precision on this pass from Mira Jungåker and the hop and deflection from Makenna Webster for Ohio State.

Wisconsin's puck movement and Lacey Eden finding the space on crowded ice

That's blueliner Ava Winker with some stick skills, speed and a heck of a shot from a narrow angle for Connecticut

Vermont's Evelyne Blais-Savoie with the toe drag and goal

Emerson O'Leary's pickoff and the Princeton passing that leads to Issy Wunder's go-ahead goal

Backhand flick through the five hole for Quinnipiac's Maya Labad
