Stick Taps and Snark - October 7, 2025

Stick Taps and Snark - October 7, 2025 by Nicole Haase

(I was traveling this weekend, so enjoy a hybrid post with the usual Tuesday plaudits and complaints, but with bonus goals of the week. NCAA Notebook will return next week.)

↑ Minnesota's Abbey Murphy – The redshirt senior already has two hat tricks in the team's first four games. In fact, she has nine goals and 6 assists and is averaging 3.75 points per game, which is frankly ludicrous.

↓ Predictability – When I went to vote in the polls this week I wanted to move some teams up and down based on upsets, but ultimately mostly left everyone where they were because the teams directly below them in the polls also lost games. It's not a given that a higher ranked team will sweep a series and that's such a good sign of the trajectory of the sport.

↑ Connecticut coach Chris MacKenzie – Congratulations to the bench boss on earning his 200th career win with the Huskies' victory on Saturday.

↓ Hockey East – Non-conference matchups have not been overly kind to Hockey East teams, who only have a winning record against NEWHA in the 31 non-conference games they've played so far. Overall they are 11-19-1, with a 1-7 record against WCHA teams, a 4-6-1 record against ECAC teams, a 3-0 record against NEWHA teams and a 3-5 record against AHA teams. They've also scored just 46 goals while allowing 87.

Goals of the week:

This goal to force OT with under a minute left in regulation

Great pass from Molly Jordan, better finish from Tereza Plosová

A pretty wraparound for Vermont

A nice tight angle shot from BU's Anežka Cabelová

Ella Lloyd's first for Northeastern

Alex Law's hat trick clincher for Quinnipiac

Patience and control from Wisconsin's KK Harvey
