↑ Boston College junior Kara Goulding – I'm a couple weeks late on this but it's too good not to still share. Last season, Goulding scored not one, but two shootout-winning goals for the Eagles. But since shootout goals aren't official goals, in the record books, she was still scoreless in her collegiate career. That came to an end on October 12 against Holy Cross as Goulding officially lit the lamp in her 68th collegiate game. As you can see in the video, her teammates are thrilled for her. Congrats Kara!
↓ Princeton, Northeastern and Mercyhurst – All three teams fell out of the polls this week. Princeton and Northeastern suffered losses, but Mercyhurst got replaced on an off week, which is rough.
↑ Milestones – Wisconsin's Laila Edwards and Colgate's Elyssa Biederman each tallied their 100th career point over the weekend. Saint Anselm's Ava Hills set a new program record with 61 saves in a game last Tuesday. On the same day, Ohio State's Amanda Thiele won her 58th game in net, setting a new all-time career wins record at OSU. With their win on Friday, Minnesota became the first team to amass 500 WCHA conference wins.
↓ Clarkson when playing at Boston College – The two teams have played 19 times and BC holds a 9-7-3 advantage overall, but are 6-0-1 when hosting the Golden Knights at Conte Forum. The Eagles are generally above .500 at home, but don't normally hold a massive advantage on home ice.
↑ Brown – Brown beat both Quinnipiac and Princeton in the same weekend for the first time since January 2009 and earned their first home sweep since January 2006. Brown is 4-0-0 through the first four games of a season since 1992-93. They are ranked #15 in today's USCHO poll, their first appearance on a poll since Oct. 23, 2006.
↓ Ranked teams – Is the gap closing between the top and bottom of conferences? Are ranked teams not taking their unranked opponents serious enough? Did the preseason rankings and polls get it so very wrong and now teams are self-correcting? I don't know, but if any ranked team goes into any series this year taking their opponent for granted, it seems likely that will go very, very poorly for them.
