Victory Press Reboot

Victory Press Reboot by Nicole Haase

Surprise! Victory Press is back!

When Zoe decided in July that she needed to be done with Victory Press, I supported that decision wholeheartedly, but was unsure what came next for me. While sorting through options, I reached out to Zoe to see if taking over the site was a possibility.

At the same time, two friends reached out with an idea about a new kind of women’s sports site that would combine the coverage we already had at Victory Press with pieces that cater to the changing landscape of sports fandom. That wasn’t something on my radar, but once it got in my head, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. And getting excited about it.

While this is a continuation of Victory Press, it’s also a new era.

In the spirit of complete transparency, I’m not entirely sure what the site will look like going forward. It’s a work in progress.

Think stories about what we’ll be watching for in upcoming PWHL rivalry games next to posts about how good Emerance Mashmeyer is at TikTok trends. Posts with links that help you find exactly when and where to watch games alongside movie watch-a-longs, a book club and other media recommendations. My regular coverage of the games at the 2025 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championships from Vantaa, Finland, but also videos about what the players do in their down time, what they're listening to, reading and watching.

We want Victory Press to continue to be the home of thoughtful journalism and think that can and should coexist with an appreciation and understanding that their jobs are only part of what makes our favorite athletes so interesting to us.

We’re going to cover the women’s DI college and PWHL hockey seasons. We want to talk about wrestling and the WNBA and hopefully a whole lot more. We have big hopes and tempered expectations of ourselves. I’m asking readers and subscribers to be patient with us as we try this new project that I really believe in, but that there isn’t much of a blueprint for.

I’ve committed to a minimum of a year of trying to craft this new era of Victory Press into something interesting, sustainable and unique. I’m asking you all to do the same.

I wholeheartedly believe this can go long beyond a single year, but I also know the media landscape is never stable and we’re starting on hypothetical ground here. I feel like a year gives us time to find our footing and understand if this idea is viable and if we can be the ones who pull it off.

I’m beyond excited for the possibilities.

The logistics
I, Nicole, am running Victory Press. Zoe and I completed a full transfer of assets and she has given me her blessing to move ahead with this new era of Victory Press.

Subscriptions will be reactivated on Monday, October 14. We hope you still believe in what we can accomplish at Victory Press and continue to support us.

The other two contributors will be Liz and Sam. They had the idea to expand the idea of what women's sports coverage could and should look like. I’m thrilled to be doing this with them and I’m not sure I’d trust this concept and idea in other hands.

While there is plenty of unknown right now as we create this new era for Victory Press, there are still many things you can count on finding here.

What you can expect from us:

Nicole’s regular women’s college hockey coverage - Nicole will still be previewing the best games of the week, telling you where to watch them and why, bringing the stick taps and snark and encouraging you to find your new favorite player before they even hit the national team or professional leagues. She’s also already booked to head to Finland for U18 Worlds to start the new year.

PWHL coverage - This is the content that will most evolve over the coming months as we find our footing for coverage that goes beyond game recaps. Taking a cue from the college “What to Watch” posts, we’ll be writing up games to watch and how to find them, plus getting more into the culture and fandom of women’s hockey.

A learning curve - We truly believe in this idea that we have and that there’s a need for women’s sports coverage that combines sports analysis with modern fan culture and that the two can and should happen in the same place. It will take time to find the right balance.

A willingness to learn and grow - Like something we’re doing and want more? Tell us.

Hate something? Tell us nicely.

We’re so excited to move ahead with a new era for Victory Press and we’re so happy you’re here with us.
